At LA 5,19, we facilitate powerful workshops that promote resilience, self-awareness, and mental well-being across schools, community groups, and sports clubs. Our workshops are designed for students, schools, sports clubs, and community groups across Ireland. From suicide prevention training to breathing techniques, dance, nutrition, and storytelling, each session helps build the tools people need to face life’s challenges with confidence.

A Resilience talk by Frank Diamond from Alps. This is a 90 minute talk, suitable for groups of 20 to 120 individuals, it is very popular amongst 3rd year and 6th year students that may require some extra motivation and/or resilience coming up to exam time. Also popular with sports clubs and community centres. Frank speaks of his own life challenges and experiences in this highly engaging talk, dealing with emotions and addictions and how we must keep exercising our resilience to get through tough times and low moments in life. Testimonials from teachers and students are among the best we get.

This is a suicide prevention training, it is a frontline training like CPR except it is for the mind. The Q is Question, P is Persuade, & R is Refer. This training lasts for approximately 5 1/2 hours which includes a 30 minute lunch break. The training is delivered by Ray Cullen from Talk To Tom. It is only suitable for people of 18 years or older. This is an evidence based training and it is accredited. Founded by Professor Paul Quinnette, of Oklahoma University over 30 years ago. Participants who complete this training will receive a certificate. We recommend a refresher course every three years. To date LA 5,19 have trained over 400 teachers on QPR in the Cavan Monaghan area. We believe this is as important as CPR training if not more.

Oliver has appeared on RTÉ and UK TV channel ITV & BBC. Many of today’s highly processed foods can impact on the Mood and mental health of our children and young adults. LA 5,19 as part of our “ maintain your SHED program”, actively promote healthy food and good eating habits to maintain good mental health and well-being. This talk and cookery demo will take approximately 60 minutes. Oliver provide the cooking ingredients and cooking equipment and will need about 30 minutes to set up beforehand. As travels from Wicklow we recommend a start time of 12 noon finishing at 1:00pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays suit him best.

This is a workshop developed by Ciara McPhillips. It is a one hour per week workshop, over a six week period, designed for 5th and 6th class students in primary school. Ciara is Garda vetted and has worked with Tusla, she is very experienced in working on building resilience and self-confidence with kids and preparing them for the Big change of moving to secondary school helping them deal with new friends and a new environment.

New to LA 5,19, this is a workshop on functional breathing delivered by David Toney. This workshop is particularly good at helping students with anxiety using breathing techniques to help relieve anxiety and deal with anxiety. It is also exceptionally good for improving sleep and sleep quality. This workshop lasts for approximately 3 hours with a break. David can accommodate groups of up to 30 students at a time and will need a projector with audio. This workshop is best suited to a classroom environment.

Studies in the UK carried out over the past 30 years have shown that dance is extremely good for the mind and helps lift the mood. Dance is now being used as a form of treatment for people suffering from Parkinson’s disease and Dementia. The use of dance and music to help lift ones mood has been well known for many years but overlooked. We at LA 5,19 actively promote dance and music as they can become a life skill to help build Resilience and Mental Well-Being. James McGrath of JivingGYM provides a dance class for secondary schools that is filled with many meaningful messages that will help students develop tools to deal with the many challenges life will throw at us.


> This is a high energy, confidence boosting workshop that will last for one hour 30 minutes tailored to fit within your Schools timetable. Capacity one full year group (flexible depending on space).

This is a 3 hour long workshop delivered by Carol McGirl of Pro-Training. This workshop is only suitable for students of 16 years or older. In this workshop, Carol deals the vagus nerve which is the largest nerve in your body. And how it is very receptive to your immediate surroundings and by removing yourself from the surrounding will immediately change how you feel and your mood. The course also touch on stigma and the fact that there are many many many different types of prescribed mental illness and most of us have a mild version of one or two of these and really the issue is not the condition, but the severity of the condition. A workshop can accommodate up to 30 students at a time and will need a projector with audio.

All of these workshops and talks are funded by LA 5,19 and thereby there is no cost to the school community centre or sports club. In the case of Schools they are all delivered in school during school hours. And in the case of community centres on sports clubs the same applies.
